THE WIDE-LEG WARDROBE

Reader guide

Fit & sizing

Measure, compare and notice where a garment needs room. Start with the general fit guide, then choose the proportion or comfort question that matches your own experience.

Bring the measurement that will change your choice

A size chart becomes more useful once you know whether it describes a body or a finished garment. Start with the measurement guide if those numbers are unclear. Use the general fit guide when the waist closes but the seat, rise or upper thigh still feels wrong. Those problems should not automatically be treated as a reason to buy a longer or shorter leg.

Length has two separate decisions here. The hem-length guide helps set the desired position with your intended shoes. The tall-inseam guide helps locate and verify a ready-made option long enough to reach that position. Petite styling considers a shorter frame and outfit proportions without assuming every petite wearer needs the same inseam.

For a waist-to-hip mismatch, compare the pear-shape discussion with the waistband-comfort guide before planning alterations. Plus-size styling covers outfit choices while keeping actual measurements central. When a pair already fits well apart from one localized issue, the alterations hub can help you frame a specific question for a tailor.
